Schroeder Cherry’s “Underground Railroad, Not a Subway”

Dr. Schroeder Cherry and his Puppets tell the story of ordinary people who were committed to the anti-slavery movement. Rather than focus on a great hero or heroine, the story is about a young African American boy who decides to escape slavery. This presentation is performed with a variety of puppets that Dr. Cherry originated, including rod puppets, hand puppets, and wood cutouts. The show ends in a participatory chant with the audience. Recommended audience ages are eight years through adult.
